Journey To The Past. My Personal Statement For RCSI

The struggles of a doctor to save human lives have always amazed me. I remember one event in the Emergency & Trauma department (E&T) during my hospital attachment, where I saw the perseverance of a doctor doing Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in order to make the patient’s heart go back beating. Without any hesitation, he continuously tried every effort that he had. At that time, I was touched by his noble effort to continue doing CPR to his patient even though it seemed to be fruitless. A miracle happened right in front of me when the patient came back to life. I was astounded for a moment and that incidence had truly inspired me to zealously initiate a step in a medical career.
In my studies in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme I fully developed true sincerity, resilience, perseverance, and most importantly patience deep into myself by all the positions I hold and all the activities that I participate in this college. For instance, I had been proven myself to be resilient and patient enough to entertain all those autism kids during my voluntary work at Telok Datok Autism Centre. Even the worst experience of being spat at by one of the Down syndrome kid had really tested my patience. Despite all that have happened, I joined the Prostar Club where the main objective is to create awareness to the society, especially the youth in schools about the basic knowledge in regards to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) encompassing the infection and ways of prevention. As the president of the club, I need to work and cooperate with people who are my superiors which had molded in me feelings of respect to one another in discussions held to plan the club’s activities. I can honestly say that I am really determined to be in this club to allow myself to contribute as much as I can to the society.  As part of voluntary work, I am also involved in the Olak Lempit Health Carnival that focused on giving healthcare education to the society in Olak Lempit Village especially to the younger generation. By being the project manager, I was responsible for the heart exhibition where I needed to explain the importance of choosing a good diet for a healthy heart to the people of Olak Lempit. During this exhibition, I really improved my social skills in communicating with others and I believe it to be useful during my communication with future patients when I become a doctor. In sports, I am an active player of Petanque in my college. I had been given the opportunity to represent my college in the inter college sports carnival. The experience of working together and taking risks in the competition really helped me to develop my teamwork skills.
But possessing leadership skills is not enough; I believe that a doctor must also have the heart to give the best treatment for his patients. During one of my hospital attachment in Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital, it’s not what I literally saw that shaped my mind, but what I learned and reflected by myself. While in the surgery ward, I saw a patient who was waiting to be amputated as he is suffering from Diabetes Mellitus. The patient really hoped that the operation could be avoided as he does not want his feet to be amputated. From there I understand that even a doctor cannot satisfy every patient’s need, but what’s important is that they will try their very best to save them. That is a doctor!
To become a good doctor I have to study in a medical institution that I fully trust and possess a suitable learning system. Following that I have also had some discussion with seniors who are RCSI students and I find that RCSI is the most advanced in terms of technology and communication between lecturers and students. All the notes are provided online and as a proactive student, I find this system to be very helpful because it provides me with the opportunity to read the notes before attending the lectures. The seniors also told me that RCSI provide mass collection of videos especially regarding anatomy and clinical skills which they find really helpful to master the skills needed to become a good doctor. Furthermore, RCSI provides an advance platform of communication which is called Moodle for fast and effective communication through the internet. Student welfare is also well taken care of where all the students are given mentoring for long term support during and after school hours thus enabling the students to discuss problem or seek help in any aspect at any time. I have seen some pictures of students’ facilities all I can say is that it is absolutely spectacular and after giving a deep thought, I am really determined to study in RCSI. I am truly amazed by the hard work that the RCSI administration has put on to provide the best environment and support for all the students from countries all over the world. RCSI is the best!

Proses Pemilihan Untuk Enrolled in RCSI

First thing to do is online application and then an interview will follow. For online application, you need to surf the internet and go to www.rcsi.ie and click "admission."  From there, I'm sure you all knew what to do. After that, RCSI administration will demands two recent passport sized photographs, signed on the back and must be send by e-mail or post. Plus, a personal statement detailing your reasons for applying to RCSI (Please keep your personal statement to a maximum of two pages in length, double-spaced).

After the application process, an interview will follow. For the interview, representatives from RCSI which consist of professors, doctors and  "directors" will come and conduct the interview di kolej persedian anda ataupun anda sendiri yg akan ke hotel terkemuka di Kuala Lumpur seperti Grand Millenium Hotel, JW Marriot Hotel and etc dan have your interview there. During my time, the interview is conducted at MARA College Banting (MCB) coz thats my college. A sum of 21 students had been interviewed including me and generally the questions that they ask were quite formal such as "Why did u choose medicine ?, Why RCSI ?, Can u survive in overseas ? " and etc. So, I just prepare the skema jawapan je lah^^ Anyway, behind all this, the most important thing is that you must show a decent result in your previous semester exams and a good proficiency english. That's all and "Poof" you'll sure gonna pass. Trust Me^^

First Year in RCSI

Okay! Let's begins with 1st year story. For RCSI students, the course is divided into cycles starting with Junior cycle (JC), followed by Intermediate Cycle (IC) and ending with Senior Cycle (SC). Simply said, when you come to  first year, you will be in Junior Cycle 1(JC1). After that, we got JC 2, JC 3. Then comes IC 1, IC 2, IC 3 and finally, SC 1 and SC 2.

What is more, one of the privileges of being RCSIans is that you will be getting a laptop; model name HP  620 upon registration. Well, owning a laptop is very crucial here as the lecture notes are all in the internet; in a system called MOODLE. Besides, there are 2 subjects that you need to learn online which are Histology and Radiology. Thus, thats why every lecture hall and tutorial rooms, library, cafeteria and main lobby of the building is equipped with wireless internet facilities for students. Well, RCSI must provide a comfortable and conducive  place to study for its students coz we pay more than the local.

Now, we gonna dwelve into the first semester subjects or modules (whatever you wanna called it).

1). Neuromuscular (NM) + Histology.
2). Concepts and principles in biochemistry (CPB) + Histology
3). Health and behaviour in society (HBS)
4). Haemotology and Immune system (HIS) + Histology
5). Alimentary system (AS) + Histology
6). Clinical competencies (CC)

A lot isn't it ? I guess this is why medical students are sometimes called "NERD." Well, we need to study a lot and try to not make even a single mistake bcoz' in real life a mistake can cost you a life. For more elaboration, in a week there are 2 anatomy classes which last for about 1 hour and 30 minutes for each class. And during that time, you will be expose to the "Cadaver (mayat)" and surgery skills in cutting off the skins, muscles, nerves, vessels and etc. So, make sure to attend the class. Its interesting and FUN!!! I guarantee^^  Besides, every semester, there are 3 oral anatomy tests or we called it "Card Signing," though it doesn't involve signing any cards. Anyway, though some students didn't like it that much, card signing will actually improve your knowledge and skills practically.

As an addition, in first year, you will be exposed to clinical competencies where a lot of practical sessions come into action. In this module, You will learn on how to use the stethoscope, taking pulses, and most important is to do a history taking from a patient. There are also practical sessions where you will learn on how to do GI (gastrointestinal), respiratory and cardiac examinations on a life model (actors). Sounded FUN!!! Isn't it ? Well, trust me it makes you say "Now I know that its worth to enrolled in RCSI."

Lastly...TESTS!!! EXAMS!!! Well, RCSI examination system is a semester based system. It means that you will have final exam at the ending of the semester. Plus, there are 2 quizzes in each semester where it carry about 2.5-5% marks to the final. And "card signing" which I mention before also carry some marks to the final which is about 2.5%. Ops, not to forgot to mention that there are 1 project work in each semester, where in the first semester, you do it yourself, meanwhile in the 2nd semester you'd do it together with a group which you are assign to. And for sure it also carries marks to the final.

Hmm, a lot of things that I want to write about RCSI...but Disebabkan malas nak tulis, I'd just give links yg menceritakan more informations about RCSI. Link: Click Here. and Click Here. and also Click Here.

Below is a video about RCSI for its 200 years celebration. enjoy the history, sceneries and pictures!

Team Medical Dragon 3...Inspiration and Determination.

Iryu 3

Greeting!!! ^^ Skarang saya ingin merecommendkan sebuah drama bersiri berjudul Team Medical Dragon 3 untuk ditonton. Bersumberkan wikipedia, Team Medical Dragon is a seinen manga about Japanese medical care written by Akira Nagai and drawn by Taro Nogizaka, under medical supervision by Mie Yoshinuma. It has been adapted into the television drama Iryu, Iryu 2, and Iryu 3. The story uses a cast of characters and focuses on many problems prevalent in modern Japan medicine, such as medical malpractice, drug trial, and the stagnancy of reform for the troubled health care system.

However, I doubt that you'd do that... coz the storyline agak panjang...but yg penting adalah anda terinspirasi dengan drama ini dan mengambil nilai2 dan pengajaran yg ada.

Jadi teruskan perjuangan!!! Be a good Doctor in the future!!! Anyway, I'd like to share a quotation from Asada Sensei to his team which had really inspired me. He said:

"The letter of consent is not what binds a doctor and patient, but rather trust ... "

Yes, it it trust that bind the doctor and patients. All kind of surgeries and treatments have their own risks and  whether the patient survive or dead, it is not us to decide. It is all in the hand of GOD THE ALMIGHTY. The best thing we can do is try our best. Even if the risk is 1%, I'd still will bet on it.

By the way, Iryu 3 masih mengekalkan lagu Aesthetic yg sngat menyentuh hati dan perasaan sebagai salah satu lagu temanya...Watashiwa Suki desu...^^  Untuk menonton drama ini di Mysoju.com linknya: Click here.

Longing for you day and in dream
I'm hoping you are here and leading my way

You steers my road anytime I need
If you walk away, I will follow you

Trying my life
With your secret gifts you gave to me
I won't vain and succeed it as your precious soul

Holding your hand
And I'm walking through the all of the world

Carrying your wish like the Venus in the dim sky

Ps: Team Medical Dragon 3 and Iryu 3 are both referring to the same thing. So, don't get confuse if I use Iryu 3 instead of Team Medical dragon 3...Well, its simply bcoz' its too long!!!...

What is a FAMILY ? Marumo no Okite

What is a FAMILY ? Is a family refers to blood related kin? Or is a family refers to the relationship that bonds a group of people together? Well, if a family refers to blood related kin, then a husband and wife are not family. If a family refers to relationship that bonds them together, then what if the RELATIONSHIP break? Are they still be a FAMILY? Therefore, we will meet the question: "What is a family ?"

Recently, I came across a Japanese Drama with the title of Marumo No okite (The direct translation is  Marumo's Rules/Peraturan Marumo) and "accidentally" without intention telah menonton drama ini. Satu demi satu episod habis ditonton dan setiap episod pasti mampu meruntun jiwa ke alam kesedihan, kegembiraan, kecekalan, ketabahan dan berbagai-bagai lagi alam emosi. Sinopsisnya berirama begini:

Cutekan^^

Jadi apa lagi tontonilah drama ini jika anda rasa anda ingin mengetahui "What is a FAMILY ?."
Sekian^^
